In a weather shortened game, Kyle Willard did all he could to give Western Forsyth Post 522 a boost, but it wasn't enough to get past Statesville, as Western Forsyth Post 522 lost 6-3 in five innings at South Iredell HS on Tuesday.

Willard was hot from the plate for Western Forsyth Post 522. Willard went 1-2, drove in one and scored one run. He doubled in the fourth inning.

Sam Laws got it done on the hill on the way to a win. He allowed three runs over five innings. Laws struck out five, walked two and gave up four hits.

The game was never in doubt after the first, as Statesville scored one run on a sacrifice fly by Laws.

Statesville pushed across two runs in both the third inning and the fourth. In the third, Statesville scored on an RBI single by Lance Clanton, scoring Travis Fetter.

Three Western Forsyth Post 522 runs crossed the plate in the top half of the fourth, making the score 4-3. An RBI double by Willard, a sacrifice fly by Max Uhlig, and a steal of home by Willard fueled Western Forsyth Post 522's comeback. Statesville stopped the rally after Laws got Chad Felton to strike out.

Statesville increased its lead with two runs in the fourth. A ground out scored Eythan Kramm to start the scoring in the inning. That was followed up by Colby Dishmond's solo blast.
